What you will find in here

Computers, science and geeky stuff

As a (will be) computer science professionnal you will of course find information about my latest research and development work. Besides you may also come along some of my favorite excerpts from the web and other references to all things science as well as my side-line projects.

Music

People who know me on the physical plane of existence can tell you that it is quite uncommon to see me without a machine or device for playing music. Music has something to do with my life and my life has definitely something to do with music. My musical tastes are quite large and if you want some idea about what's going on in my ears just check it out. Out of my official computer-related activities I am a semi-professionnal sound-engineer, that is to say, one without a diploma but a wide range of experience instead. If that's what you're interested in you should take a look at the music part of this website.

Curriculum Vitae

... or a shiny way to say what you've done in your life in Latin. To know all of what I've done in my (professional) life and the associated skills that I've acquired during my education and my work take a look at my CV.

Who am I ?

My name is Duco van Amstel and I am Computer Science researcher and software developer. I was born on the 29th of July, 1988 in the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands.

I did my pre-High School education there before moving to the south of France at the age of 12. From there on I did my High School and Universitary studies through the french educational system: a Baccalauréat Scientifique followed by three years of Classes Préparatoires (Read what these are) at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand specializing in applied mathematics, computer science and physics. At that point I passed the competitive entry exam of the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon) and entered their computer science department.

I recently graduated from the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon with an MSc. in Computer Science. Around January 2013 I should be starting a Phd. in a joined contract between the INRIA CompSys research team and the Kalray S.A company on the subject of compiling and optimization for dataflow languages on many-core architectures.

On a more personal side I am involved with live music events as sound engineer, a hobby I started during my studies in Lyon. While working as the technical support coordinator for a Lyon-based student organization I've been in charge of several small to mid-sized events including multiple school festivals and open-air events in Lyon.
