My name is Duco van Amstel and I am Computer Science researcher and software developer. I was born on the 29th of July, 1988 in the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands.
I did my pre-High School education there before moving to the south of France at the age of 12. From there on I did my High School and Universitary studies through the french educational system: a Baccalauréat Scientifique followed by three years of Classes Préparatoires (Read what these are) at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand specializing in applied mathematics, computer science and physics. At that point I passed the competitive entry exam of the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon) and entered their computer science department.
I recently graduated from the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon with an MSc. in Computer Science. Around January 2013 I should be starting a Phd. in a joined contract between the INRIA CompSys research team and the Kalray S.A company on the subject of compiling and optimization for dataflow languages on many-core architectures.
On a more personal side I am involved with live music events as sound engineer, a hobby I started during my studies in Lyon. While working as the technical support coordinator for a Lyon-based student organization I've been in charge of several small to mid-sized events including multiple school festivals and open-air events in Lyon.
